This is available to those who have completed the Core Mobile Crisis Training Series.
This is a 4-hour module
Description: Providing care and support for people in crisis, including many who have experienced violence, abuse and other forms of trauma can be extremely rewarding, emotionally taxing, or both. Many who take on this work have histories of adversity or trauma that can come into play in positive or negative ways. To ensure the health, safety and effective functioning of crisis responders, it is imperative to have routine and effective debriefing and support structures in place. In this highly interactive session, MCIT members, program administrators and team supervisors will learn to recognize the influence of trauma exposure on interventions and interactions along with techniques for remaining grounded and present in the face of trauma-linked reactions and behavior. Through applied scenario-based practice, participants in this session will learn to provide and use reflective debriefing and support to prevent secondary trauma and burnout, to address needs and challenges, and to promote learning and practice improvements for individuals and teams.
Module Objectives:
Following this session, participants will be able to:
1) Identify common and personal “triggers” of trauma-linked responses in clients, co-workers, or self
2) Understand potential impacts of trauma on behavior, comprehension and memory for both themselves and others, including communication and the setting and maintenance of appropriate boundaries.
3) Create a personalized self-care strategy for remaining present and grounded while working with trauma-related responses in self and others.
4) Practice and benefit from using reflective supervision and support with supervisors and/or peers

Who should attend:
This training is for mobile crisis staff which can include QMHPs, QMHAs, Peers and other Family Support partners in Crisis
Trainer: Elaine Walters. Elaine is the founding Executive Director and lead trainer at the Trauma Healing Project, an organization that provides professional and community training, workforce support and direct healing support for survivors. Prior to this position she coordinated the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program for the Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force in Oregon. For the last 30 years she has been a consultant, trainer and community organizer working to address and eliminate intimate violence. She has designed and facilitated workshops and trainings on many related topics and has provided direct services and support to youth and adults impacted by violence, abuse and other forms of trauma and oppression. She is involved in the effort to expand accessible trauma healing and restorative resources and practices, and to implement trauma-informed care locally, regionally and state-wide.
Important note about Continuing Education Credits (CEs):
This module has been accepted through AOCMHP as a MHACBO accredited and approved training. Attendees may receive a certificate for this training indicating MHACBO approval.
For those needing Social Work or other CEUs specifically, you can take your training completion certificate and course info to seek approval to your individual licensing boards.
